Mask class begins by making a cast copy of your face. You then learn how to transform it into your very own self portrait sculpture. Instruction is given for your design ideas. After well dried, paint and adorn your shaman mask or portrait keepsake. Awaken it as a Medicine tool to shape your changes!

A shaman's mask embodies the ability to journey through the spirit world through trance and contributes a unique aspect to the shaman's power. The mask may connect the shamanic practitioner to their totem animals, beneficial Spirit Doctors, the andawees (angels) of the directions, the ancestors, clans, or life changing experiences. Personal Transformative Masks express change and the ability to shape the changes a person is going through. These self-portrait transformational masks guide us through rites of passage and initiations. With your mask you experience non-ordinary reality and dance to your own personal drummer. The process is most enlightening and fun.

You are welcomed to bring ideas, pictures, sketches, as well as items to glue on….feathers, beads, favorite pendant or shell…to be added second session.If you don’t have a vision already, you can take time in meditation to receive one! We will also share ways to use masks for personal and ceremonial possibilities.

About Polly Branch:

Roanoke artist, Polly Branch has paintings, sculpture, and mosaics in private and public collections. She has helped hundreds of children create self portraits and learn about the concepts of masks in schools in Roanoke, VA. She paints landscapes, figures and sculpts portrait commissions.
Polly currently creates personalized Altar Boxes.

Polly received her B.A. in Biology, and masters in Arts and Liberal studies. She co-directed the Peace and Justice Center of Roanoke, and was a founding creator of Earth Day Roanoke 1990-2000.

She received her shamanic training as an apprentice in Practical Shamanism with Azurae Windwalker. She studies elemental mysteries of the Universal Kabbalah with the Rocky Mountain Mystery School traditions, and the Living Light Foundation.
