Red Feather Medicine Singers Medicine Wheel Concert Friday May 14 at Unity of Roanoke Valley

You are invited to a two hour concert of the Red Feather Medicine singers at Unity of Roanoke Valley on Friday May 14 at 7 pm.to 9:30 pm.   The Red Feathers will travel around the Medicine Wheel singing songs, drumming and telling stories that illustrate the healing of the Medicine Wheel and the American Indian culture of each direction.   And you can also enjoy songs of the Woodland Indians with the Red Feather Medicine Singers at Local Colors International Festival on Sat., May 15 at Elmwood Park in Roanoke, VA.

The group is honored to be members of the North American  Indigenous Women’s Drum Society.  They will be playing drums, rattles, rain sticks, and Indian Love flute in a highly energetic performance.  The Red Feathers sing both modern and traditional American Indian songs in English, Cherokee, Iroquois, Lenape, Shawnee, and the Saponi languages. Many of the songs performed are songs of healing.  At the Unity concert  stories and cultural teachings of the Eastern Woodlands are offered as well by Grandmother Diane Elliott. The group performs regularly at churches, schools, businesses, camps, festivals and pow wows. They wowed audiences last year at the Taubman Museum. And they had Unity members dancing in the aisles, tapping feet and going into deep meditation at their Unity appearance during Sunday services in March. The members of the group are Azurae Windwalker, Sharen Bredeirt and Kris Powers from Bedford Co. and  Karen Draudt, Penny Best, Diane Elliot and Polly Branch from Roanoke.

The mission of the Red Feather Medicine Singers is to enlighten, inform and entertain audiences awakening them to the Spirit in Nature and to the wisdom of our American Indian cultural traditions.  The Red Feather Medicine Singers’ programming is exciting and very interactive.  Their audiences often join  in dancing, making music and singing on simple answer back songs. The group recently performed at  Preston Park Elementary School to excellent reviews. Previous to the brief Local Colors performance the group will be giving a concert at Unity Church of Roanoke Valley on Friday, May 14 at 7 pm. Suggested Love offering for this is $10.
